Taking a Ferry to the Island of Catanduanes
I treated my time in Legazpi as kind of a shakeout period for me and my bicycle. I was just getting used to not working anymore, not being in Taiwan anymore, and learning to ride my bicycle again with a full touring load. Before I left Legazpi, I decided to go to the island of Catanduanes. The idea was to take a casual ride around Catanduanes and see how my bike was working. It was supposed to be easy and relaxed. Well, as with many decisions I made for this trip, it didn’t really work out that way. Catanduanes was a beautiful place, and I enjoyed my time there. However, the roads were unpaved and extremely steep. Riding around Catanduanes was really hard. I couldn’t have picked a tougher place to begin my cycling.
I first had to ride my bike up the coast to a nearby town, where I caught a ferry. I had to buy a ticket for myself and pay almost as much for my bicycle.
