I admit it. This picture was taken a few years ago, but I think I still look vaguely like that. Depends on the day (and the time of day). And today, just before I uploaded this picture, an Indonesian English student told me how much she liked my nose. I heard that a lot in Indonesia. Apparently, a large nose like mine is a good …
Read the full story »I apply for a tourist visa for Myanmar at Ever Fine Services in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. After that, I sample a special Taiwanese dessert called a snowflake. The owner of the Bingo snowflake shop treated me to a mango snowflake, and it was amazing.
My flight to Myanmar was coming up fast, and I still had a lot of things to do to get ready. I had booked my flight, but I still needed to get a tourist visa. And that meant preparing documents to bring to the agency. On top of that, I was still having camera issues. The main one for today was audio, and I …
Little India in Kuala Lumpur’s Brickfield district seemed too large and contained too many snacks for just one visit. I decided to explore the area street by street over five days and try five new snacks (if possible) on five different streets.
It’s the 5-Day, 5-Street, 5-Snack Challenge!
Day One of my expanded 5-Snack Challenge involved a trip to the historical Jalan Scott, or Scott Road. …
New possessions often lead to a perceived need for even more possessions. And my new Panasonic G85 is no exception. With this new camera has a come a need for new microphones, new bags, new memory cards, and even a new tripod.

My original plan was to visit Little India in Brickfields. But as I did some research, I discovered something interesting and I changed my plans. On my way to Old Little India, I …
I’d been hearing about Kampung Bharu (or Kampong Baru) for a long time. I heard stories of this traditional Malay village right in the heart of downtown Kuala Lupur – right across the Klang River from KLCC and the Petronas Towers. I didn’t even realize it, but on my trips to Chow Kit Market and to the National Art Gallery, I was right beside Kampung …
I had a simple mission for the day – errands, and a visit the 120-year-old Chan She Shu Yuen Temple/Ancestral Hall in Chinatown (that’s Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, of course). I had seen this temple while riding the Monorail, but I didn’t have a clear sense of its location. When I learned it was just at the end of Petaling Street and I could …
I know less about art than I do about food, so it made sense to head to the National Art Gallery in Kuala Lumpur for a Culture Vulture Sunday experience. And I got lucky. The main exhibit on display consisted of installation pieces (sculpture, found object, etc) from the gallery’s permanent collection. I enjoy that kind of art quite a bit.
The other exhibit on the …
