7:30 a.m. at a 7-11 on Bade Road
I’m sitting inside a 7-11 is just down the street from the building where I work. It’s only 7:30 now, and I don’t start work until 8:30, but I don’t mind leaving early sometimes. I have smooth sailing down the streets as rush hour hasn’t begun, and I can hang out and have a couple …

9:00 a.m. 7-11 on Chang-Ang Road in Taipei
This is pretty much the same setup as every other morning this past week or two. I’m here at the 7-11 a bit later since I managed to drop back to sleep at some point late this morning and sleep in a tiny bit. So it’s 9:00 a.m. It’s a bit of a weird day …

Storytelling? I'm in!

Friday December 21, 2012
7:30 a.m. at a 7-11 on Chang-An Road in Taipei
I am at my second favorite morning coffee spot. This 7-11 is much larger and has tables as well as the window counter. The other 7-11 is much closer to my apartment, but it is also much smaller and I can feel guilty about occupying a seat there for too long. I decided …

8:00 a.m. 7-11 on Zhongshan Road, Taipei
I’m in my favorite morning spot – the counter at the 7-11 around the corner from my apartment. I keep trying different coffee shops, but they are never open when I want them to be, and they generally serve much worse coffee and for three or four times the price, so I frequent this 7-11, and …

Storytelling Classes, Speech Contests, and Shenkeng Old Street

December 15, 2012 – 12:02 pm
Sunny Warm Day on Shenkeng Old Street

Life here has been fairly interesting. I’ve been to a number of school events, and a full account of even one of them would run to several pages. These events never cease to blow my mind. There has been a fair amount of drama connected with them, too. One foreigner freelancer, some dude named Cameron, never showed up at all for a speech contest and …

View From the National Theater

Sunday December 9, 2012
9:12 a.m. at the 7-11 on Zhongshan Road in Taipei
The big event for yesterday (Saturday) was a performance at the Experimental Theater. I went to see a play by Stan Lai called Bach Variations: Rebirth. I didn’t really know what it was when I bought the ticket, but I like Bach very much. I delayed my departure for the theater a little …

Fire Extinguisher Practice at a School in Taipei

Saturday December 8, 2012
10:00 a.m. at the 7-11 on Chang-an Road in Taipei
It has been a busy week for me. I went to three different schools and had a ton of recording to do at work. But let’s go back to Sunday. I’m a bit tired right now. I was out until midnight last night chatting with a coworker. He got me talking about my …

Photo Post: Temple Statue

November 6, 2012 – 3:38 pm
Statue at a Temple near Taipei

I don’t know who this figure is, but I’m curious to find out. The statue was at a temple on Route 106 between Taipei and Pingxi. The temple appeared to be dedicated to gods of wealth and fortune, so I assume this fellow has something to do with money. The fact that he is painted all in yellow gold seems to support that idea.
