Palawan Bike Trip 004
March 11, 2008
I spent a second day in Puerto Princesa simply looking around and doing a bit of shopping. I didn’t feel quite ready to jump on the bicycle and start pedaling. I can’t say that I had any particular adventures other than shopping for a couple of T-shirts and some toiletries. I was amused at the general store where I bought the toiletries to …
Palawan Bike Trip 003
Sunday, March 9, Puerto Princesa
I don’t think every woman that works at this hotel knows my name. However, I’m pretty sure they all know me by reputation. I’m the guy who flooded room 9.
I came back at the end of the day yesterday to find everyone smiling at me and laughing. I asked for the key to room 9 and this provoked more smiles and …
Palawan Bike Trip 002
Saturday, March 8
I feel like my body has been under a ten-ton press and then released. I mean that in a good way. Climbing out of sleep, my whole body felt heavy and slow. Even now over breakfast my arms feel like heavy unwieldy clubs. This is all because I got a good night’s sleep. I slept hard and deep. It feels like the first …
Palawan Bike Trip 001
March 7, 2008
You’d think that after as many bike trips as I’ve gone on, it would be easy to pack and prepare. But it isn’t. Each time it’s like I’ve never done it before. Partway through the packing, you start to think that it would be better not to bring a bicycle. It’s great to have a bicycle as a way of getting around and …
Cambodia 016 – Return to Taipei
I’m at the airport way too early as always. I suppose I could have organized my day a little better and gone out for a cup of coffee in the city this morning at least, but when that time came I actually fell back to sleep thanks to those blackout curtains in my room. I still had enough time to get a coffee, but that would have meant getting to the airport at the normal time instead of at Doug’s patented “let’s reduce the stress as much as possible” time.
Cambodia 015 – Churning the Ocean of Milk
March 6, Tuesday, 2007
A complete and utter change of scene. I’m back in Phnom Penh and of course the first thing I did, after getting a place to stay, is go down to the riverside and look for a pizza. I’m just waiting for it to come to my table and am enjoying a Beerlao.
I don’t know about this whole taking a bus business. Well, …
Cambodia 014 – Siem Reap Pub Street
March 5, Monday, 2007, Siem Reap, Cambodia
It’s seven a.m. here and I rode my bike back to the coffee shop at the gas station. It was actually a bit of a ride, and now I’m a little sweaty. But that’s okay. I like the coffee and the atmosphere. Plus, it was too early for the places in my new neighborhood. None of them were open …
Cambodia 013 – Angkor Wat
March 2, Friday, 2007, Siem Reap, Cambodia
It’s 8 o’clock in the morning, and I’m back at the little coffee shop at the gas station. I hope the journal mood hasn’t left. I sat down with my first cappuccino and then I saw Michael ordering a coffee. He came over and joined me and we talked for a while. He just went back to their guest …
